Alan Kelly - Musical Director
Appointed in 2009 to the role of Musical Director with The Millicent Singers, Alan believes in a progressive approach, working on as wide a range of music as possible from the choral sphere.
A graduate of both Trinity College Dublin and the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama, Alan has received conducting tuition from some of Ireland’s leading conductors, including David Brophy (RTE Concert Orchestra), James Cavanagh (RIAM) and Ite O’Donovan (Lassus Scholars). He also had the opportunity to learn from the legendary Frederick Fennell of the Dallas Wind Symphony and Kosei Wind Orchestra while a student at the Conservatory.
Alan brings a professional approach to his work with The Millicent Singers, insisting on individual work and home rehearsal. In recent times, Alan has founded “Kildare Choral”, a movement designed to bring professional educators to choirs in Kildare, and ultimately has the aim of re-establishing the Kildare Choral Festival which existed in the 1800’s in the county.
